Subject:  Crime Stoppers of Northeast Mississippi, Inc. is designated as Mississippi Crime Stopper Program of the Year.


Crime Stoppers of Northeast Mississippi, Inc. received the award today designating them the  “Mississippi Crime Stoppers Program of the Year”.  This award was presented at the conclusion of the 2009 Annual Mississippi Crime Stoppers Conference in Tunica, MS by the  Mississippi Crime Stoppers Advisory Council Chairman Walter Tucker and Trish Harbour,  Crime Stopper Division Director of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

In presenting the award, Mr. Tucker stated:
“This program is one of the largest crime stopper programs in the state covering seven (7) counties in the Northeast Mississippi area.  They receive a large amount of tips each month that play a major role in helping solve crime in Northeast Mississippi.  This program is made up of people who care
about their communities and in keeping the criminal element out.  With this programs strong impact and it's partnerships with local law enforcement agencies and various media outlets, it is the perfect example of a Crime Stopper Program.”

Receiving the award on behalf of the Board of Directors of Crime Stoppers of Northeast Mississippi, Inc. were Vice-Chairman Bob Chesnut who represents Pontotoc County; Treasurer Bill Allen who represents Lee County; Board Member Pat Patterson who represents Alcorn County; Board Member Sharon Terry who represents Alcorn County; Board Member Janet Fulton who represents Tishomingo County; and Crime Stopper Coordinator Lt. Tim Tate with the Tupelo Police Department.

WTVA Channel 9 was presented with the
"Media of the Year" for their role in helping get weekly segments on the air.  WTVA airs the "crime of the week" on Tuesday nights at 6pm and
10pm.  Receiving the award on behalf of WTVA is News Anchor Craig Ford.
