Tupelo detective wins Crime Stoppers award 2/11/2008 5:06:33 AM

TUPELO - Lt. Tim Tate was Crime Stoppers' rookie of the year.
In his first year as coordinator for Crime Stoppers of Northeast Mississippi, Tate won the statewide Coordinator of the Year Award at the Mississippi Crime Stoppers Conference last week.
Tate, with more than 20 years in law enforcement, took over the position in 2007 after Capt. Cliff Hardy resigned.
"This is a huge honor for me," said Tate. "I was really surprised when I learned I'd won it. I really wasn't expecting it."
Community, media efforts
"To me it shows the success of our program and our relationship with the community and the media to get these crimes solved. We want to continue to help the community with Crime Stoppers."
State Crime Stoppers Coordinator Trish Harbor said despite Tate's quiet demeanor, his actions can be heard loud and clear.
"He just jumped in with both feet and made some great progress for the program," said Harbor. "The program has really responded positively to him, and him winning this award shows that. He really deserved the award and we're glad to have him on board."
Tate said he didn't become a part of Crime Stoppers to win awards, but admitted he was glad to get it.
"This is one of the nicest looking awards I've ever won," said Tate.
